However, there are other dental procedures apart from a tooth extraction. The following are the most common dental procedures you can find in almost every dental office you visit for dental care:
1. Fillings
It is a dental procedure performed in the dental offices to patients who have a hole or holes in their teeth due to tooth decay. The dentist fills the gaps using materials made from different materials such as silver metal or even white composite. After the dentist fills the hole, the tooth is sealed and the cavity, will not grow again.
2. Root Canals
In most cases, your teeth can be inflamed or even infected may be due to tooth decay, faulty crowns, a crack on the tooth, or also having too many dental procedures done on your tooth. If such a tooth is not treated, there is a formation of what is called abscess. Whenever you have an abscessed tooth, the bone around the tooth can be damaged, and for this reason, a root canal must be done to treat the tooth. The dentist will open and remove the particles the abscessed teeth and then seal the hole in the tooth rather than extracting the tooth.
3. Dental Crown
A dental canal is also called a cap. A dental canal can be performed in a tooth due to several reasons. For instance, when your tooth has decayed, stained, broken, or even when it has a chip on it, the dental canal is essential. A dental crown involves covering the existing tooth permanently without extracting the tooth. The crowns are also made of different materials that can be combined or not. These materials are porcelain and metal. The tooth and the tissue surrounding the tooth that needs to be crowned is first numbered using an anesthetic, and then, the tooth is filed to allow the crown to be added. In other cases, patients, have too much of the tooth missing and the dentist has to use filling materials to shape the tooth again and then the doctor will use a mould to make a temporary crown for your teeth. When you visit the dentist again the temporary crown will be removed, the dentist also anaesthetised your tooth again and then cements the new crown on the tooth
4. Bridges
Bridges is a procedure that is performed to replace a tooth that is missing. Bridges can either be supported by an implant on your tooth or by the natural teeth. However, the case, it’s a false tooth that is attached using crowns.
5. Implants
It’s also a procedure that is done to replace a tooth that is missing, but implants are more the same as the natural tooth since they also have roots and crowns. However, they are made of fusible metal frames that are inserted in your bone socket where there is a missing tooth.
6. Extractions
When people have decayed or broken tooth, they opt for tooth extraction. It involves permanent removal of the tooth. In other cases, a tooth blocking other teeth from growing can also be extracted.
